Oriental Herbal Nutrient
With Korean Natural Farming we use natural ingredients, usually those found on the land itself, to produce inputs such as fertilizers and soil builders. These inputs enhance the microbial activity in the soil to produce naturally rich and healthy media for plant growth and production.

OHN is a combination of these five ingredients. Use one part of each with the exception of the angelica extract, of which you use two parts.

This is one 750ml bottle of Oriental Herbal Nutrient (OHN). 500ml angelica extract, 250ml of garlic, ginger, licorice, and cinnamon extracts.
Oriental Herbal Nutrient (OHN) is one of the most expensive and time-consuming to make, and one of the most important. It is medicine for plants, animals, and humans and accordingly used in various ways. A research paper was published by the University of Hawai’i at Hilo describing its basic function and the recipe for making OHN yourself.
To make mine I have used this recipe in conjunction with the explanations of various members of the East Hawai’i Natural Farmers group who meet every second Tuesday evening, 6pm at the Komohana Ag Extension Bldg in Hilo. Making my own is rewarding as I love the alchemy of combining natural ingredients to make potent magical elixirs for the good of the planet (okay, I’m getting carried away but only a little, hehheh).
OHN is just one of several important solutions and materials used in the practice of Korean Natural Farming. Check out this page of the Natural Farming Hawai’i website for a discussion of all the KNF solutions regarding when and how to use them and how to make them.
